Dental Implant
Definition: A dental implant is a small titanium or ceramic post placed in the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root, which then supports a crown, bridge or denture.
Why it matters
Implants replace the root as well as the visible tooth, which can help limit the bone loss that often follows a missing tooth. Healthy gums and enough bone are needed, so an evaluation comes first.
