Restorative term

Dentures

Definition: Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth and the surrounding gum tissue, made as complete dentures when all teeth are missing or partial dentures when some natural teeth remain.

Why it matters

Dentures restore chewing, speech and appearance, and they need adjustment over time as the gums and bone change. Partial dentures are also used for some children who lose teeth early.
